Dry, dull skin during these Colorado winter months is a common concern among our patients. If you too are needing to rejuvenate your skin our Skinwave machine is an amazing option. Here’s why!
The Skinwave uses a delivery system to cleanse, exfoliate, and perform painless extractions. The Skinwave accomplishes this through its dual action handpiece that suctions and simultaneously delivers various solutions. Treatment solutions include: Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Hyaluronic Acid (HA). The solutions used are totally customizable to your concerns and needs. Let me break this information down for you a bit more.
Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA)
AHAs are water-soluble acids made from sugary fruits. There are a number AHAs out there including: glycolic acid, lactic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, malic acid, and mandelic acid. These acids help to “break the bond” holding dead cells to the surface of your skin. Once this bond is broken the dead cells will naturally shed. You may not notice any obvious shedding, but don’t worry you will know this process has taken place when your friends compliment your glow or you catch a glimpse in your mirror of that beautiful tone and smooth texture!
Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA)
BHAs are oil-soluble which helps them to get deep into our pores. Salicylic acid is the most common BHA. It’s important to note, individuals with an allergy to Sulfa should avoid use of Salicylic acid . Tropic acid, trethocanic acid, and beta hydroxybutonic acid are other BHAs. BHAs are great for controlling excess oils and exfoliate dead cells similar to AHAs. BHAs are ideal for those more prone to acne, individuals who have a history of rosacea, and/or those with oily skin.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
HA is a sugar naturally produced in the body and can be found in areas such as the joints, eyes, and skin. When used in skin care, HA brings moisture to the surface of the skin due to its capability of drawing and holding onto water. Use of HA during a Skinwave treatment helps to reduce inflammation as well as soothe and hydrate the skin.
After your face has been exfoliated, cleansed, and quenched we top it off with concentrated hydrogen water. This step helps reduce the pesky active oxygen that causes increased levels of cell damage. To finish things off, electroporation with LED and a contour roller is used to provide further improvements to the texture and tone of your skin, promote blood circulation, and help with lymphatic circulation.

Additional Methods to Help Fight Dry Skin
· Use a humidifier
· Limit frequency and length of showers to once daily for 5 to 10 minutes. Lengthier and more frequent showering can strip away the skin’s natural oils
· Use tepid water rather than hot water. Again, this will help preserve your skin’s natural oils
· Use fragrance-free soaps and deodorants. Products with fragrance frequently contain alcohol that can be very drying to the skin
· Apply moisturizer daily and ideally immediately after showering to help lock in moisture
